Beautiful Pebble Place Mats

Image
After making  the ceramic mosaic tile trivet , i found i wanted to make more goodies and  I came across these images from a site about home decorating. This is the link if you want to look at more cool ideas. http://www.decor4all.com I think these are so cute and you can get small pebbles like these anywhere. In the summer time you can get them from beaches, walks along the path and anywhere you can go swimming really. You can always buy them too, art and craft stores will be the best place to get a good variety but dollar stores have them as well for a cheap price. So it also depends on the circumstance and your budget. Things you will need: 1. Rubber mat 2. Contact adhesive 3. Pebbles Thes are so fun and easy to make.  If you don't fancy pebbles, why not make a  ceramic mosaic tile trivet ??

How to make your own chalk paint recipe

Image
I love this Plaster of Paris recipe for Chalk paint. Plaster of Paris Recipe 3 parts Paint 1 part Plaster of Paris Water to mix I made a smooth paste with the plaster of paris and water before mixing it into the paint. When mixed well, it was silky smooth and applied just as nicely as brand name chalk paint. The second day it did thicken a little and appeared a little grainy, but after mixing it thoroughly it was fine. The left over paint was stored in a glass jar to be used again. Plaster of Paris Chalk Paint Cost - £3.40 for a 1.5kg pack which will last for a long time, plus the cost of the emulsion paint.. but if you are like me you will have quite a hoard from the sales and samples. Time Involved - Easy to find Plaster of Paris on-line or at any Tesco , Range , Hobbycraft or craft store. 3-5 minutes to measure and mix it thoroughly into the water and paint. Application - Brilliant! The consistency was great and it painted on like brand name chalk paint....

How to make a Rope Mirror

Image
Make a beautiful rope mirror - The Martha Stewart way. You will need: 1/2-inch-thick natural-fiber rope  Unframed 10-inch round mirror  Cement glue Painters' tape   Directions: Step 1 Measure and cut 2 segments of rope, one to fit around the mirror’s outer edge, the other to fit just inside the first. Step 2 Glue rope to mirror, lining up the ends for a neat seam. Step 3 Secure with painters' tape until dry. Step 4 Once dry, make a knotted hanger: Cut a 45-inch length of rope, and tie a knot on both ends (we used a variation on the figure-eight knot; see diagram). Step 5 Glue knotted ends of rope to sides of mirror; one knot should cover the seams. Secure with painters' tape until dry. Upcycled Tv Unit

Image
If you read my post on  Lightening McQueen Bedroom on a Budget  you will notice in the corner of Luke's room there is a rather good looking TV stand :) This was not always the case. When my eldest lad moved out, I inherited this hideous looking TV stand,  There was some unsightly marks from the "fat screen" tv that was there previously I lightly sanded the unit down then I used my fantastic bargain buy, my Blue Melamine Paint which i stocked up on a few years ago (from Poundland) Not bad eh?  eventually we will put the TV up on Lukes Wall, I just wanted to make sure all the furniture worked in the space that I had put it into. DIY Driftwood Tutorial

Image
Did you know that you can imitate nature? Kirsten from  Craftiments  was creating a summer mantle and needed some driftwood, but after searching she figured that the price of purchasing and the shipping cost was just too expensive. Luckily she has a background in chemistry, and was therefore able to use her knowledge to create this fantastic tutorial . Materials  - eye protection and rubber gloves - sticks and small logs that are at least partially dry - hammer, other tools that could be used for distressing the wood - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda ( MSDS ) - hot water - container large enough to hold the wood - wire brush - (optional) oven for drying the wood  -  sandpaper or sander power tool Now lets head over to  Kirsten at Craftiment s  for her amazing photographic step by step to turning regular looking wood in to amazingly beautiful drift wood. How to Make A Folding Chair

Image
How To Make a Folding Camp Chair I super excited to get to share another project tutorial with you. My last few projects have been so much fun to put together, it's nice to know that others think they're pretty okay too. My husband was even impressed with these chairs! Not because they turned out super cute or anything, but because they are "actually useful"-- silly boy! He has so much to learn about crafting... Let's get going, summer is here and there are camp outs to attend. First, hit the hardware store and gather your supplies. Here's what you'll need: **this is enough to make 2 chairs** WOOD: (2) 1" x 2" x 8' furring strips (4) 3/4" diameter x 48" poplar dowels  PAINT: 4' x 5' canvas drop cloth White primer/paint for legs Colors of your choice for designs on seats(when it came time to paint I ended up using spray paint on my seats, just a thought...)  HARDWARE:  (4) 1/4...

Lightening McQueen Bedroom on a Budget

Image
I have caught a bug, no not that type of bug, but the decorating bug. My eldest son moved out a few weeks ago, and left an empty bedroom, and as the gruesome twosome were sharing a bedroom we decided to let Luke have Andrews old room. Firstly, it would need a serious paint job.   My eldest son, Andrew, has a unique taste when it comes to decor :) Luke posing in his soon to be new room I gave the room a couple of coats of white, then i had a blank canvas. I primed the skirting board with grey primer, ready to paint it white, as the skirting board was a dark stained brown. I painted the top half of the room yellow and the bottom half I painted blue, seeing how good the grey primer on the skirting board looked with the blue paint then i had an idea..... I had a flash of inspiration when I was painting. So, I left a section in the middle about 5 cm, when the paint had dried I put two strips of  masking tape around, one just above where the y...

Ceramic Mosaic Tile Trivet

Image
This project is ideal if you have any leftover ceramic tiles from a recent home decorating project, you can use them to create an interesting set of trivets or coasters. All you need is scrap pieces of tile, a plastic lid, a piece of felt, and some tile grout.  Jessica Ackerman describes the process below :) Time   30mins to 1 hour Materials Scrap pieces of ceramic tile  Plastic lid (a coffee can lid works well for a trivet, while potato crisp can lids or peanut container lids work well for coasters)  Tile grout  Mat or towel to cover the work surface Heavy paper or cloth bag  Hammer  Piece of felt  Scissors  Craft glue Step 1: Start by breaking the tiles up into small irregularly shaped pieces. To do this, place the tiles in a strong bag, tie securely, and hit with a hammer. Be sure to wear plastic goggles or other eye protection, and only hammer the tiles on ...
