Jute Lampshade Refurb Tutorial

Image
I bought this cute little pink lamp and stand at a charity shop, but I had no idea where it would go in my home, as I don’t have any pink rooms, but I loved the silver stand. However, i did on the other hand have a boat load of Jute string.... I just knew that those reels would come in handy SOME day :) You will need Lamp shade and base Jute string Hessian  Ribbon Scrap of material I removed the shade, i had the fantastic idea that i could just feed the reel through the shade, but no,,,, it was too wide. So i wrapped a large amount of jute around my hand and started to feed it through the lamp. Thread it through and make sure that it lines up next to the piece before, and does not overlap Repeat a few a lot of times.. Be careful that your jute does not tangle up like mine did...if you look carefully at the picture below, you will see my cat 3hree, who was the main culprit in tangling the string... After spending too l

Braided Door Mat

Image
There's nothing like greeting your guests in style and with this Martha Stewart door mat, you are bound to make a lasting impression. Before you start, practice the braid by making a miniature version of the mat with thinner rope. When you're ready to make the big mat, cover a large work surface with kraft paper. Draw a cross on the paper; it should have a 33-inch vertical line and a 12 1/4-inch horizontal line. (This is the dimension of the mat when you get to step 4.) As you weave, use the cross as a guide and tape down loops to retain the mat's shape. We used 1/2-inch-thick twisted nylon rope. About 165 feet makes a 33-by-20-inch mat. Step 1 - Starting at one end of rope, form a loose knot as shown; leave a 30-inch tail on right side and slack on left side. Gently pull down on loops. Step 2 - Flip loops to left as shown. Lift the first loop and cross it over the second. Step 3 - Using tail end, weave as shown. Step 4 - Using sla

Chalk Painted Toy Chest

Image
Since learning how to make  Chalk Paint  i have become obsessed by painting everything LOL.. If its wooden/old/boring or ugly it get the Chalk Paint treatment. My sister bought me this chest for my birthday last year, i loved it, but i could see more potential to it. So i made up the paint as the  Recipe  states and got to work. The paint looks a little more shocking on the above picture, it really was not that bright in real life. I left it to dry and put a second coat on. Via EBay i found a lovely vinyl saying which would be perfect. So here she is..... I think its amazing, and i love it, not only does it look fabulous, but it hides all the kids clutter.
