Tiny Kitchen Makeover

So my plans to keep blogging weekly with my handmade cards has unfortunately taken a back seat, because am also on a journey to de-clutter and decorate our 3 bedroomed home.  This week i have concentrated on the kitchen.

Over time, the kitchen got more and more cluttered.  It was becoming more and more frustrating when i opened a cupboard and things fell out.

So i bit the bullet and went for it.

Please don't judge me on the before pictures.  I forgot to take them, and then when i did remember, there was more stuff piled on the side than there usually is.

As you can see from the pictures we have a tiny galley style kitchen.  The kitchen units were beech coloured and tiles were a beige coloured.

The first thing i did was to wash the tiles thoroughly with sugar soap, this was to remove any dirt or grease, so that the paint would adhere to the tiles better.

Using a roller to paint the tiles white.  I used wilkos own brand tile paint in brilliant white.

I was not loving the tiles after the first coat of paint, so i waited the recommended 12 hours to apply the second coat.

As you can see for the photos below, it was so much better after the second coat.  In fairness to the paint, i don't know if i could have done it in one coat, as i was a little anxious about the paint dripping i only used a small amount of paint on each coat.

Once the tiles had dried thoroughly, i moved on to the units.  I used wilkos own brand furniture paint in mineral stone.  I knew this paint would be fine as i have used the paint on so many different projects throughout my home.

Opps i forgot to mention that i stripped the wallpaper off the wall about the sink and cooker.  I painted that wall with Wilkos own brand kitchen and bathroom paint cosy grey.

We change the tap in the sink, how lush is the new one... i had been after one like this for years, and my husband finally gave in and bought and fitted it himself (super proud of him - He doesnt like DIY)

I bought some plastic storage boxes that were on sale from Wilkos - I am not sponsored by them, its just the store is so handy to my home. Which i then cut vinyl with my cricut so now i can see exactly what i have at a quick glance and it just looks super organised.

UPDATE:

Having lived with the kitchen for a week - i absolutely love it.

We ended up buying new handles for the doors and drawers (yes yes, you guessed it, they were from Wilkos.  Whilst i saw and loved these handles, i  was absolutely fine keeping the old ones as they were in tiptop condition, however my hubby said we may as well change them.

I have cleaned the kitchen several times and the paints holds up really well, i have not had to do any touch ups or there have been no scratches.  I highly recommend if your going to paint your kitchen to consider wilkos own brand paints, they are so cheap to purchase

The next thing we are going to do is to buy new worktops and a new range cooker at some point in the future. As for now its perfect.

Thanks for stopping by

Its fair to say that this past year i have struggled more and more with my mental health.  I was diagnosed over 15 years ago with having depression, I do have weeks where even getting out of bed takes so much energy.  I struggle with my sleep where i cant sleep and am so tired during the day that just making a drink is an effort.  So when i have the motivation i am the first to take the opportunity to take it and blitz my housework.
